On March 27th, Zhang Yiming, the founder of ByteDance, became the richest person in China.

张一鸣1983年出生于福建龙岩。他的父亲曾是一名公务员，后来创办了一家电子产品加工厂。他的母亲是一名护士。他的父母喜欢新事物，给了他一个自由的成长环境。这也让他对新事物产生了兴趣。2001年，他考入南开大学时，选择了软件工程专业。那时，张一鸣就立志要创造一些有价值的东西，比如制造芯片。

Zhang Yiming was born in 1983 in Longyan, Fujian. His father was a civil servant and later started an electronics (电子器件) factory. His mother was a nurse. His parents loved new things and gave him a free environment. This made him interested in new things, too. When he got into Nankai University in 2001, he chose Software Engineering. At that time, Zhang had already decided to create something valuable, such as making chips.

大学期间，张一鸣非常努力。他不玩游戏，也不看DVD。他编写代码、读书、修电脑。他通过承接外包项目赚取收入。2005年毕业后，他开始了自己的第一次创业，但失败了。

At university, Zhang Yiming worked hard. He didn’t play games or watch DVDs. He wrote code, read books, and fixed computers. He made money by taking on extra projects. After graduating in 2005, he started his first business, but it failed.

之后，张一鸣辗转多家企业任职。在酷讯，由于工作勤勉，他成为了一名技术经理。2008年，他加入了微软。但半年后，他离开了，因为对他来说，微软的发展节奏太慢了。后来，他来到了饭否网。在那里，他从领导们身上学到了很多东西。2010年，他创办了九九房，取得了成功。

Then, Zhang Yiming worked at several companies. At Kuxun, he became a tech manager because he was hard-working. In 2008, he went to Microsoft. But after half a year, he left because the pace of progress at Microsoft was too slow for him. Later, he came to Fanfou. There he learned a lot from his bosses. In 2010, he started 99fang, which was successful.

2012年，张一鸣推出今日头条。该产品迅速走红。2016年，他创办抖音。抖音深受各年龄段人群的喜爱。抖音海外版TikTok也受到全球人们的喜爱。

In 2012, Zhang started Toutiao. It became popular very quickly. In 2016, he started Douyin. It is popular among people of all ages. Douyin’s overseas version, TikTok, is also loved by people around the world.
