成都市2021届中考九年级期中摸底英语试卷之阅读理解含答案

Monday, January 21st

I'm a virus (病毒) for the common cold. It has been a long time since I infected (感染) humans last time. Today I tried to infect a boy in a primary school all day.

His name is Sam. I waited on his desktop, and when he touched the desk I jumped on his finger. Unluckily, Sam didn't touch his eyes, mouth or nose. Then, right after class, he washed his hands. Now I'm full of soap and wet all over!

Tuesday, January 22nd

This morning I jumped into the nose of Sam's best friend, Bill. Unluckily, the mucus (粘液) in his nose caught me. I thought it was over for me when suddenly Bill sneezed (打喷嚏) while he was talking to Sam.

I knew that would send me right into Sam's face! However, Sam quickly gave Bill a tissue (纸巾), and Bill sneezed into that instead! Infecting people is harder than I imagined.

Wednesday, January 23rd

I'm feeling very unhappy today. Some scientists caught my friend Harry and put him under a microscope (显微镜). Besides, Sam ate all his vegetables today. He's exercising, and he's getting eight hours of sleep every night. His body is too strong for me! Maybe I have to give up and move to another school.

成都市2021届中考九年级期中摸底英语试卷之阅读理解含答案

weather. It is a sweet job. However, the person needs to be good at math. Chocolate has a melting point (熔点) close to our body temperature. For that reason, chocolate melts easily in hot weather. You might think the study is silly, but if there is really a "doctor of chocolate", he or she will help people a lot.

One logo (商标) isn't too expensive to print, but printing a large number of logos could cost a lot. In order to save money and ink (墨水), an American design company made small changes to some famous logos, such as Nike, McDonald's and Starbucks. The design company retained (保留) the main body of these logos, but left a space inside. The logos look almost the same, but in this way, the companies could save 39 percent of the ink when printing.

Dad never liked the jam (果酱) we bought at the supermarket. He said it didn't taste as good as the jam your grandmother used to make. When we told Grandma about this, she said she would show us how to make real homemade strawberry jam.

To make the jam, we needed to get some strawberries first. Grandma knew where to get the good ones. She took us to a farm. The farmer gave us some buckets (桶). Grandma showed us how to choose the reddest ones to make the best jam. It took us a while to fill our buckets with the strawberries. The nice thing about picking the strawberries is that we were allowed to eat a few. They were delicious. We finally had enough strawberries to make the jam. The farmer weighed our buckets and told us how much to pay.

When we got home, Grandma washed the strawberries first. Next we put the strawberries, sugar and water into a big pot and started to cook the jam. When it was finished, we poured the hot jam into bowls. After it cooled, we put some jam on bread and ate it. Our jam was much better than any in the store!

Do you still remember the debate between sweet and salty zongzi during Dragon Boat Festival? It seems that the differences between northerners and southerners have always been a popular topic among Chinese people.

Now another difference has drawn wide attention: The way northerners and southerners shop for food at markets.

People from southern China might say they prefer to buy what they need for just one or two meals. It is normal for them to buy just half a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0.25 kilograms of beef at a time. However, you may be laughed at if you do this in the north. Instead, buying enough vegetables and meat for a week is usual, reported China Daily.

Also, when you go to the market in the south, you can buy a small amount of fruit, such as an apple or pear. Shop owners even help you peel and cut them. But it'd be hard to find shop owners in the north offering this service .

The difference could be because of the difference climate.

Food can be kept for a 1ong time in the north, as it is usually cold and dry there. Many northerners have the habit of stocking up (囤货) on food. But because of the hot and wet weather in the south, those in the south prefer to buy just enough food for one meal or one day. Otherwise, the food may go bad.

Maybe these debates about differences help us Chinese know more about each other.

As a photographer(摄影师), I've lived in the northwest part of Philadelphia for a few years. After hearing about the news that schools have shut down in my area because of COVID-19 in April, I decided to visit some of my neighbors. I was interested in hearing the experiences of parents who were staying at home with their kids full time—many who were balancing work and their children's online education.

While taking walks in my neighborhood, I would greet those sitting on their doorstep or playing on the sidewalks. I started taking photos of the families while remaining outside and keeping a safe distance. Taking photos from farther away was atransition for me. I'm so used to taking photos of people close, especially families. Often I found myself shouting to ask questions while taking down notes.

Living here, I've noticed that nearly all families have big yards and green space. They thought they were so lucky, because their children could still play outside at home when most playgrounds and parks were closed.

Many parents told me that they were feeling guilty( 内 疚 的 ) about trying to work while also helping their kids with their schoolwork. "Working from home takes twice the amount of energy for me and it's half an productive (富有成效的)," Stacy Brix, a nurse and mother of three, told me. "Even so, I'm thankful that I can spend a lot of time with my kids. "

I also interviewed single parents. Many of them spoke about how happy they were to have this family time together. "I feel calm and have fun in this bad situation," said Bridget Mitchell, a single mother and kindergarten co-teacher. "I'm so grateful for the time I have with my daughter, and it brings us closer. "

Although there are many questions about when the viruses will go away, most parents can put aside(把……放一边) worries and make the best of this unusual situation.

() 74. The author did something in her neighborhood in April, not including .

A. interviewing some parentsB. taking photos of the people in the park

C. greeting some of her neighbors
