I will never forget an accident that happened in my own childhood. When I was a boy of twelve, something happened to me that made me never 26 any birds in a cage.
We lived on the edge of a forest in South Carolina, and every evening many mocking birds would come and rest in the trees and sing. There isn’t any sound that can be27 than the song of the mockingbird.
I decided to catch a young bird and keep it in a cage, 28 in that way, I could have my own musician. I finally caught one and put it in a cage. The bird was 29 and fluttered about the cage, but finally it became quiet in its new home. I felt pleased with 30 and looked after my little musician carefully.
On the second day, the bird’s mother flew to the cage 31 food in her mouth. The baby bird ate up 32 she brought, I was pleased to see this. Certainly his mother knew better than I how to feed her baby.

Arthur Wayne, a famous scientist, happened to be in the forest where we lived at the time. Hearing me crying over the death of my bird, he told me what had happened. “A mother
mockingbird, finding her young in a cage, will sometimes bring it poison (毒药) food. She thinks it better for her young to die than to live in a cage.” Since then I have never caught any birds or put them in a cage. All the birds have the right to 35 in the sky.

Many studies about language learning ask the question: What makes a good language learner? There are some things that good language learners do and some things they don’t do. Here are some of the most useful suggestions from studies.
• Don’t be afraid of making mistakes. People often get things wrong. Good language learners notice their mistakes and learn from them.

If you want to study abroad, have you thought about where to live? I’ve been living and studying in Canada for about nine months. As I’m still too young to rent an apartment (租公寓) by myself, I live with a homestay family and I feel like I’m part of it.
The first time I had a homestay was in 2013. During that time, I stayed in Ajax, a town in Canada, for a week and lived with a homestay family. Carlton lives with his nephew and his
niece-in-law ( 侄子和侄媳妇). Carlton drove me to an international school to learn about Canadian culture every morning, and he picked me up in the afternoons. Our free time was in the evening.
The meals he made for me were delicious and we usually watched a movie after dinner. All experiences ( 经 历 ) left an unforgettable impression on me, even if I didn’t live there for a long time.
I’m now living with a Hungarian (匈牙利) family with another Chinese boy. There are two family members— Mrs. Perger and her son, Robert. I’ve already lived here for nine months and I
have been deeply moved by many things they’ve done. Once, my roommate went running and didn’t come back for quite a long time. Mrs. Perger called him, but he didn’t answer the phone. She began to worry about him, and was even about to cry. Fortunately, he was fine and got back home later.
However, living with a homestay family also has its disadvantages (缺点), especially when living with a foreign family. The biggest challenge for me has been the totally different lifestyle, which took me a long time to get used to.
Living with a homestay family has given me a lot of new experiences. It has taught me how to communicate with different people. Moreover, when different lifestyles and cultures meet
together, I have seen that the sparks (火花) they make are spectacular (壮观的).
46. How many people are there at Carlton’s before the writer lives with them?
A. Two B. Three C. Four D. Five
47.The meaning of the underlined word fortunately is close to .
A. terribly B. comfortably C. healthily D. luckily
48. What can we learn from the article?
A. The writer hasn’t got used to the different lifestyle yet.
B. The writer has been deeply moved by what the Pergers have done.
C. The writer has been living with a Canadian family for nine months.
D. The writer chose a homestay family for he couldn’t pay for the apartment.
49. Which of the following shows what Mrs. Perger is like?
A. Careful and kind.
B. Outgoing but proud.
C. Helpful and humorous.
D. Outgoing and humorous.
50. What’s the best title of this passage?
A. Life about the Canadian homestay families
B. Disadvantages of living with a homestay family
C. Experiences of living with foreign homestay families
D. Suggestions for those who want to live with homestay families

Nowadays, we are having a much busier life and we are using our eyes more than ever before. So we often have tired eyes after a day’s work or study. Here are some good protecting ways to keep our eyes healthy.
Get into the habit of paying attention to the way you sit. Try to keep the correct posture (坐姿) as the doctors say. Otherwise it is very easy to get near-eye sighted (近视).
There are lots of pictures online that can help to make your eyes relaxed. You may download(下载) such pictures to your computer or smart phone. When there is nothing far away, you can use one of these pictures to look at instead. For example, a picture with something green like trees in it is quite popular. Try to look as far into the picture as you can for a little time. Do you feel much better now?
Don’t forget “the 20-20-20 rule”. That is taking a rest from the screen every 20 minutes for 20 seconds and looking at something 20 feet away.
Doing eye exercises from time to time is a must. Look at something on the right. Keep your eyes on it and slowly turn your head to the left as far as possible. Then do the same thing on the left. Or hold your finger in front of your nose and keep looking at it while slowly moving finger towards yourself as close as you can. Then look outside the window as far as possible. Repeat the exercises a couple of times every day.
Table tennis is about a small ball moving quickly. There are no better ways to practice our eyes than it. But people also think some other sports like tennis, badminton and kite flying are of great help for relaxing your tired eyes.
Therefore, only when we use our eyes in a scientific way can we protect our eyes from tiredness.

Several days ago, some students from the US visited our school. When we talked, I discovered some d 76 in school life between the US and China. For example, each class lasts fifty minutes in the US. It is a little l 77 than that in China. We usually have forty or forty-five minutes in each class. A 78 difference is that in China they have shorter break time between classes. Besides, although most schools in both countries finish their m 79 classes at 12 o’clock, the students in the US only have an hour-long break. So they eat lunch quickly. Their afternoon classes begin at 1:00 a.m. and school is o 80 at 3:00 p.m. Then they take part in club activities or play sports.
Many Chinese students don’t work d 81 their school years, while the US students like to find a part-time job in their f 82 time. They do not have a dream job in mind. They think t 83 is no difference between jobs. Working is a u 84 experience and they can make money at the same time. Some of them even take one-year-full-time jobs a 85 they leave high school and then go to college. In my opinion, it’s good for their growth.
假如安迪是一位来自美国的交换生,目前就读于你所在的中学,通过一个月的接触,你们成了好朋友。请你根据下面的提示,以“A friend from the USA”为题介绍一下他。开头和结尾已给出,不计入总词数。
